Bar Study

Certain fees related to bar study are allowed to be added to a 3L students cost of attendance. As a result, your first option should be to request an additional $1,361 in Federal Graduate PLUS funds to offset these fees. Please visit the Financial Aid Office and complete an Action Request Form to ask an increase in Cost of Attendance and additional Graduate PLUS funds. Deadline for the 2012-13 academic year: 04/03/2013.

Presently there is limited availability for bar study loans to 3L students who will be preparing for the Bar exam after graduation in May. These credit-based loans can cover the bar study course and living expenses. Amounts vary by lender but are usually around $12,000 - $16,000.

We encourage you to apply as soon as possible given the uncertainty of continued availability.

Here is a list of the lenders presently offering bar loans and a link to their bar loan information and application. Apply online, print out the application and bring it to Financial Aid (200 McAllister, Room 275-B) for certification (if required by your lender). The funds are sent directly to you.

If you have additional questions about the process, please contact the Financial Aid Office.
