Students fund their education from a variety of resources including savings, income, and family assistance. The purpose of financial aid is to provide funding to students who need additional help meeting the cost of attendance. If you do not have the resources to pay for your education at UC Hastings, you should apply for financial aid to determine your eligibility. There is no fee to apply.

The largest portion of financial aid received by students is in the form of student loans. Nevertheless, many students who qualify for need-based financial aid at UC Hastings also qualify for some amount of grant. Unlike a loan, a grant does not need to be repaid. Need and merit based scholarships are also awarded.

A professional school education is an investment in your future. It requires a significant financial commitment on your part, but the rewards of a legal education make this commitment worthwhile.

Satisfactory Academic Progress

Federal regulations effective July 1, 2011 consolidated financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress into 34CFR 668.34. The regulations stipulate that students who wish to receive financial aid must be in good standing and making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree. At least annually, typically at the conclusion of the spring semester,UC Hastings measures students’ progress toward degree completion using both qualitative and quantitative standards in accordance with the federal regulations. Students must meet both qualitative and the quantitative standards in order to be considered as making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree for the purposes of financial aid eligibility.

Withdrawals and Leaves of Absence - Return of Title IV Funds and Refund Policies

Law students who wish to withdraw from school or apply for Leave of Absence must obtain official approval from the Dean. When the Financial Aid Office receives official notice of your withdrawal or leave of absence, the office will recalculate financial aid eligibility based on the date of withdrawal. The Financial Aid Office will determine the amount of aid you are entitled to keep and the amount of funds that must be returned to the Federal Title IV programs. Fees are refunded according to the Return to Title IV Aid policy.
