Study Away

Many students choose to study at another institution during their education at Hastings College of the Law. In the event you are considering this option for your future, below is information regarding the status of financial aid while studying away from Hastings.

Concurrent (joint) Degree

Concurrent degree students apply for aid directly to the school they will be attending in a particular year, i.e., apply to Hastings when attending Hastings; apply to UCB when attending UCB.

Exchange Students

Exchange students pay Hastings fees while attending an official UC Hastings Exchange Program. Their financial aid and the aid application process are the same as if attending Hastings. UCH has an official Exchange Program arrangement with Austral University, Argentina; University of New South Wales, Australia; Peking University Law School, China; Shanghai Jiao Tong University KoGuan Law School, China; University of Copenhagen, Denmark; Bucerius Law School, Germany; Freie University, Germany; Tel Aviv University, Israel; Bocconi University, Italy; The International University College of Turin, Italy; Waseda University, Japan; Leiden University, The Netherlands; Deusto University, Spain; IE (Instituto de Empresa) Law School, Spain; University of Paris II, France.

Study Away Students

Hastings students who choose to attend another ABA approved law school for a semester year or summer can apply for and receive Federal Stafford Loans and /or Federal Graduate PLUS Loan. Students studying away at another institution are not eligible for a Hastings scholarship, grant, Perkins Loan, or Federal Work-Study. Typically, students borrow additional Federal Graduate PLUS Loan to cover their expenses in these study away programs. Students must apply through Hastings not the other school.
