Insurance Benefits

UC Hastings is one of eleven UC campuses participating in UC SHIP. UC SHIP is a comprehensive major medical insurance plan, providing medical, counseling, prescription, vision and dental services. The year-round plan, which uses the Anthem Blue Cross PPO network, is tailored to meet the health and wellness needs of graduate students. Remember, all students can use Student Health Services, whether they have UC SHIP or not.

Effective Dates

The UC SHIP plan start dates for Spring 2013:

• January 10, 2013 - Transfer students and Returning students.
• January 9, 2013 - Newly enrolled Foreign Exchnage students

Student Health Insurance is included in your tuition fees. The insurance premiums for the 2012-2013 school year are $1048 for the Fall and $1572 for the Spring/Summer, a total of $2620.

Network of Providers

If you would like to be seen by a non-Student Health provider for any type of specialty care (such as a chronic condition, surgery, pregnancy or mental health) you will need a referral from Student Health Services. In order to find an Anthem Blue Cross PPO provider within California please select the following prompts on the network website:

• Choose "I'd like to search by Selecting Plan"
• Select California for State
• Plan Type: PPO
• Plan Name: Blue Cross PPO (Prudent Buyer) Large Group

In order to find a network provider within the US (but outside California) select the PPO button under guest, and go to the next page.

The BlueCard Worldwide (BCWW) Program provides Blue Cross members traveling or living abroad with access to an international network of inpatient, outpatient and professional providers as well as medical assistance services.
