Thank you for your interest in the Summer Legal Institute.
To enroll in one of the credit-bearing courses (listed here), please follow the instructions below.
Current UC Hastings students may register for these credit-bearing courses using WebAdvisor. There is no registration fee and no application required. See steps 3 and 5 for payment and Financial Aid information.
Non-UC Hastings students who wish to apply for any of the Summer Legal Institute’s credit-bearing courses should follow steps 1-4. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications for Session 1 and the Full Summer Session will be accepted until May 12. Applications for Session 2 will be accepted until June 30. Your application is not complete until we have received your Official Law School Transcript and Letter of Good Standing. Prospective students are advised to apply early as courses have limited enrollment.
Step 1: Complete the Registration Form. (Application not required for current UCH students.)
Print and complete the Summer Legal Institute Registration Form. Mail the form to the Summer Legal Institute, UC Hastings College of the Law, 200 McAllister Street, San Francisco, CA 94102 or scan and e-mail the form to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Step 2: Current Law School Transcript and Letter of Good Standing
Applicants who are J.D. students currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school other than UC Hastings, or foreign law students not admitted to the UC Hastings LL.M.. program must also provide the Summer Legal Institute with proof of good standing and a current transcript. Your application is not complete without a current transcript and proof of good standing. These materials should be submitted directly from your school. They can be mailed to the Summer Legal Institute, UC Hastings College of the Law, 200 McAllister Street, San Francisco, CA 94102. We can not accept student delivered materials. Students admitted to the 2017-18 LL.M. or MSL programs at UC Hastings do not need to complete this step.
Step 3: Review of Registration Materials
Upon receipt of your registration form, your details will be reviewed and you will be notified via e-mail about your enrollment.
Step 4: Securing Your Spot in the Summer Legal Institute
Admitted students must submit full payment ($1200 times the number of units you have registered for) by 3:00 PM on the first day of class to secure your enrollment in the Summer Legal Institute. There are two acceptable forms of payment:
Pay ONLINE (highly preferred method)
Applicants with United States residency may pay by personal check. International applicants may pay by bank draft, money order, or via the online method above.
Step 5: Financial Aid: Current UC Hastings students who plan to use financial aid to cover the cost of their summer course(s) should apply for aid at least two weeks before the start of the session they register for. Please visit the UC Hastings Financial Aid Office's summer session webpage for further information. Non-UC Hastings students should plan to apply for financial aid through their home law schools at least one month in advance.
