The Chancellor’s Cabinet

The Chancellor's Cabinet

Message from Chancellor & Dean Frank H. Wu:

I would like to introduce the Chancellor's Cabinet, a talented group of people whom I am privileged to call colleagues. The Chancellor's Cabinet consists of seven people. We hold a Key Issues meeting every Monday to discuss everything happening at UC Hastings.

Academic Dean Shauna Marshall is the chief academic officer of UC Hastings. She is responsible for all aspects of the curriculum and scholarly activities of the school, including oversight of the faculty, adjunct faculty, and centers. Her extensive portfolio also includes the library, admissions, and career services. Dean Marshall has announced her retirement, and the Board and the faculty have convened a search process. With input from me, the Board and the faculty will choose the next Academic Dean; the faculty typically votes on candidates.

Associate Academic Dean Keith Wingate reports to Dean Marshall. He has primary responsibility for enforcement of the Academic Regulations and the Student Conduct Code. He also supervises a number of offices that provide direct services to students, including the Students Services Department, Records Office, O'Brien Center for Scholarly Publications, Student Information Center, Academic Support Program, Disability Resources Program, and Legal Education Opportunity Program. Dean Wingate has announced his retirement as well.

Chief Financial Officer David Seward is responsible for the non-academic business operations aspects of the institution. In addition to the budget, he oversees the campus itself. He works closely with me on legislative outreach and external affairs. He reports to the Board of Directors and me.

General Counsel Elise Traynum ‘86 is our in-house lawyer, not only offering advice and counsel on legal aspects of all matters but also representing the institution as needed. She oversees the work of outside counsel. She also serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors, to which she reports in addition to reporting to me. She supervises Public Safety as well.

Human Resources Executive Director Marie Hairston is responsible for all personnel matters, including relations with our labor unions.

Chief Information Officer Jake Hornsby is responsible for all computing technology, including hardware and software, related to academics and business operations.

Assistant Dean Shino Nomiya is responsible for institutional advancement, which refers to fundraising and alumni outreach. She coordinates with and supports the UC Hastings Foundation Board of Trustees and the Alumni Association Board of Governors. In addition, she oversees alumni communications and the school's capital campaign.

I also work closely with Communications & Public Affairs Director Alex A.G. Shapiro. I benefit from the dedication of Administrative Assistant Deanna Talavera. Every day, I realize how much I depend on the tremendous work of these individuals.

Sincerely,

Frank H. Wu
