I am pleased to introduce University of California Hastings College of the Law's first Chief Information Officer, Dr. Jake Hornsby. Many faculty and staff have already met Jake virtually or participated in the national search that identified him as the leading candidate to help us "reboot" legal education. I'm personally excited to work with Jake, who will arrive this week.
Jake joins UC Hastings from his current role as Head of Networks at the University of Cambridge in England. He has also had several years of experience leading technical organizations within the Air Force, where he attained the rank of Captain, and he has taught online and traditional courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in business, mathematics, and computer science. His academic education includes a BS in Computer Science, an MBA, and Ph.D. He also is a California native.
I have asked Jake to work on three priority tasks consistent with the UC Hastings strategic plan. They are: (1) the integration of our various IT functions into a single, streamlined, efficient structure that delivers the highest level of customer service; (2) working with CFO David Seward to modernize our business systems and processes; and (3) leading our entry into high-quality on-line teaching and learning.
You may contact Jake at hornsbyj@uchastings.edu. We will have him in a temporary office for a few weeks, before he locates to a permanent location in the 200 building.
Please join me in not only welcoming Jake but also ushering in a new era for legal education.
