This message is to apprise you of several improvements being made to our photo display on the 3rd Floor of Mary Kay Kane Hall (200 McAllister). The purpose of this initiative is twofold: to 1) honor the 65 Club that has been such an important aspect of the history of UC Hastings; and 2) make good on our promise to show the diversity of our faculty.
To honor the 65 Club, we will be installing a high-resolution monitor that will display all of their photographs. In addition, we have featured the 65 Club in a lengthy article in UC Hastings magazine (“The 65 Club: A Legacy of Distinguished Scholarship”) renovated the Traynor Room, and hired a professional archivist to maintain our memorabilia and records. We’ve also installed a bust of Dean David Snodgrass, who came up with the concept of the 65 Club, in the building named for him (198 McAllister). Photographs of several of the 65 Club members, including United States and California Justices, will remain in their hardcopy formats on display in Kane Hall.
To make good on our promise to show the diversity of our faculty, we also will be adding photographs. Some years ago, we agreed with alumni and students who advocated for better representation of the history of the school that we should display a range of images; during various renovations, however, a few of the images that were installed were not replaced. Individuals who have served as Chancellor & Dean, Provost & Academic Dean, and Associate Academic Dean also will be featured, and this series will be continued.
Our Art Guidelines are also in the process of being updated. We welcome your input.
