Adjunct Professor Karen Carrera received her Juris Doctorate from Hastings College of the Law in 1992. She is the Senior Staff and Mentoring Attorney, at Legal Aid of Marin, where she mentors and provides assistance to Legal Aid of Marin attorneys, law students, and legal assistants. She is also a named partner and "of counsel" at Talamantes/Villegas/Carrera, LLP (TVC), a San Francisco employment law firm representing plaintiffs in labor and employment class actions and lawsuits. Prior to TVC, Professor Carrera served as a Deputy City Attorney and litigator with the San Francisco City Attorney's Office, Code Enforcement Division, and was a supervising attorney at La Raza Centro Legal specializing in employment, landlord tenant, immigration and elder law. Professor Carrera currently serves on the board of Equal Rights Advocates, a civil rights organization in San Francisco.
Professor Carrera has served as a mediator for the San Francisco Superior Court Early Settlement Program and the Marin Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
Professor Carrera is a member of the California State Bar, Labor and Employment Law Section, and the California Employment Lawyer's Association.
In her free time, Professor Carrera enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.
