Adjunct Professor Robert Dobbins has served as mediator, arbitrator, discovery referee, settlement counsel and facilitator in hundreds of matters. His specializations include domestic and trans-national business/commercial, employment, insurance, real estate, probate, major injury/death disputes and 'Lemon law'. He completed his Masters of Laws in Mediation (with an emphasis in international dispute resolution issues) as part of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution's inaugural LL.M. class, and has his own conflict management and dispute resolution practice.
The Adjunct journey at Hastings brings to Professor Dobbins the honor of teaching at the Center for Negotiation & Dispute Resolution the subjects of International Negotiation & Dispute Settlement Seminar and Negotiation & Dispute Settlement. He has also worked with the Center's Director as a coach of the Hastings Mediation Competition team.
Professor Dobbins is also a proud member of the Adjunct faculty at Straus. There he teaches the International Commercial Negotiation & Dispute Resolution, Cross-Cultural Dispute Resolution, and the ADR Seminar courses at the Institute's Orange County Centre and the Main Campus in Malibu, and the Institute's Orange county Mediation Clinic. On the administrative side, he is the Southern Counties Liaison for the Institute's programs at the Orange County Centre.
Professor Dobbins frequently lectures and conducts trainings, here and internationally, in conflict management and dispute resolution to mediators, lawyers, judges and professional organizations.
Professor Dobbins had the distinguished privilege of serving as a Visiting Scholar at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in Vienna, Austria, assisting in the completion of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Conciliation.
A long distance runner, Professor Dobbins' next challenge comes from the New York Marathon in November 2006. He also brews his own beer, is an avid baseball fan, longboard surfs, enjoys reading, good music, good wine and good conversation.
