Tom Duley concentrates on technology transactions for life sciences companies. He negotiates, drafts and manages intellectual property and commercial transactions for life sciences companies, including collaboration agreements between biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, licensing agreements with commercial businesses and academic institutions, supply and manufacturing agreements, distribution agreements and asset purchases and sales involving drug products and manufacturing facilities. For his outstanding transactional work, Mr. Duley has been featured as a Life Sciences Star within the inaugural edition of LMG Life Sciences 2012 and in LMG Life Sciences 2013
Mr. Duley has worked with companies throughout the corporate lifecycle, from start-up entities obtaining their first university in-license to large public corporations restructuring their product holdings. His work includes extensive experience with cross-border transactions involving companies throughout the world, including Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Before joining DLA Piper, Mr. Duley was Senior Corporate Counsel and head of the transactional legal group at PDL BioPharma, Inc. Earlier, Mr. Duley worked as an architect in California and New York.
Mr. Duley has taught at UC Hastings and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He also speaks frequently at conferences related to the Life Sciences Industry.
Mr. Duley’s publications include Biotech Licensing: Key Principles for Building Successful Licenses and Collaborations Between China and the West, Trends in Bio/Pharmaceutical Industry ("TBI"), Vol. 5, Issue 2, published by the Alliance of Chinese American Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Associations (2009).
Mr. Duley is graduate of UC Davis (J.D.) and UCLA (M.Arch., B.A.). He is member of the California bar.
