Professor Gupta serves on more than a dozen mediation and arbitration panels throughout the state including all of the California federal court mediation panels and most of the court panels in the Bay Area.
He conducts mediations from Flashpoint Mediation’s centers in San Mateo, Sacramento and Irvine.
In 2013, AAA invited him to New York to mediate SuperStorm Sandy property damage insurance coverage disputes. In one stretch, Shirish mediated 14 disputes in five days.
Professor Gupta has mediated a diverse array of cases, including employment disputes over discrimination (age, sexual orientation, racial, disability, pregnancy, physical disabilities), wage and hour/misclassification, and retaliation. Shirish has mediated complex cases, IP disputes, multi-party mediations, class actions, insurance carriers and unrepresented parties.

In addition to teaching a Negotiation Seminar at UC Hastings College of Law, he regularly trains other mediators and attorneys. For example, at the 2011 State Bar Annual Meeting, alone, he spoke on 4 panels.
Professor Gupta began his career as a litigator with Howard Rice in San Francisco and then with Mayer Brown in Palo Alto. He launched his own solo practice law firm, Flashpoint Law in 2008, just before the great recession and launched Flashpoint Mediation a couple of years later.
Professor Gupta received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and his Bachelors with Honors from UC Berkeley, where he majored in Economics and Legal Studies with a minor in South Asian Studies.
In 2013, the State Bar Board of Trustees selected Professor Gupta to Chair the Solo & Small Firm Section Executive Committee, which represents the interests of nearly 80,000 lawyers in California.
He is a past-President of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California. Lastly, he volunteers as an AYSO coach, referee, division coordinator and board member. You’ll find him on a soccer pitch most Saturdays.
