Professor Massey is a product of small towns in the western mountain states. He joined the UC Hastings faculty in 1987, following a dozen years of practice in San Francisco. Among his books are a constitutional law casebook, American Constitutional Law: Powers and Liberties and Silent Rights: The Ninth Amendment and the Constitution's Unenumerated Rights. He is also the author of a property casebook, Property: Principles, Problems, and Cases, forthcoming in 2012. He has authored over 50 articles, most of which involve matters of constitutional law.

Professor Massey has been a visiting professor at the law schools of Stanford, University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall), Boston College, Boston University, Lewis & Clark, Washington & Lee, and Leiden University in the Netherlands.

Expertise: Constitutional Law, including Federal-State Relations, Free Expression, Due Process, Equal Protection, and Religious Freedom, Property and Wills and Trusts
