Scholarships and Financial Aid

University of California Hastings Scholarships

The University of California Hastings offers a few selective merit based scholarships for exceptional LL.M. students. There is also need based assistance available. If you wish to apply for a scholarship, you will need to answer the optional scholarship application questions on your online LSAC application. You will also need to attach a word document briefly describing your financial need and why you are applying for a scholarship.

  • The Virginia Leary Merit Scholarship - The Virginia Leary Merit Scholarship was established to recognize the extraordinary achievements of the late Professor Virginia Leary, former Alfred and Hanna Fromm Chair in International and Comparative Law at U.C. Hastings.  Professor Leary was the leading American woman of her generation in the field of public international law and one of the progenitors of the principle of an international human right to health care.  She served for many years with distinction in the United Nations organization.  She was also instrumental in the establishment of the LL.M. in U.S. Legal Studies program at UC Hastings.

Research Assistantships

It may be possible for LL.M. students to apply for Research Assistant positions with faculty as well as other on-campus positions. Please note that availabilities of such positions are extremely limited and are restricted to a part-time basis. Students are expected to have their own funds to cover a majority of cost incurred.

Financial Aid Resources

Eligible noncitizens may apply for federal financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Financial Aid Supplement. The priority deadline for entering students to submit these requirements is March 2nd. For non-eligible international students, it may be possible to acquire loans from U.S. lending organizations with a credit-worthy U.S. Citizen as a co-borrower. For more information, please visit Financial Aid.
