Tuition for the 2012-2013 academic year is $41,200 with no distinction made between in-state and out-of-state residents. There are also additional activity, health services, and insurance fees. Please visit Fiscal Services to view a breakdown of the tuition and fee schedule.
Estimated living expenses, including housing, food, transportation, books and supplies, and federal loan fees, are $21,156. This estimate is based on a nine month academic calendar and is the same whether the student is living on or off campus.
Most full-time MSL students live off campus, where there are many options available in different San Francisco neighborhoods at various price ranges. Off-campus housing is coordinated by the UC Hastings Student Information Center (SIC). Check out their Off-Campus Housing Guide. The SIC also hosts the online UC Hastings Housing Board, which both new and returning students are welcome to use for finding apartments and roommates. The Housing Board is a Google-based discussion site and it works best with Gmail accounts. Once you are admitted to the MSL program, you will be sent an invitation to join the Housing Board.
Since UC Hastings is easily accessible by public transportation, students do not need a car to live off-campus. Hastings is approximately a three-minute walk from the Civic Center, a major stop for both MUNI (within San Francisco) and BART (regional, including East Bay) transit systems.
For those students who drive, the college does own a parking garage one block from campus. For those who wish to look into on-campus housing, UC Hastings is one of a limited number of urban law schools with housing devoted exclusively to its students. To download an application form online, please contact UC Hastings’ Housing Department. We do recommend that you apply for housing early.
