In order to earn an MSL degree, students must complete a total of 28 units, which includes both required and elective coursework. MSL students are graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
There are a variety of courses available to MSL students in order to meet their diverse needs and interests. Students will choose coursework in consultation with their faculty advisor and the UC Hastings Associate Academic Dean. View Sample Courses.
MSL students are required to attend a two-day New Student Orientation with the entering J.D. class. MSL students are also invited to attend a two-week orientation program designed to introduce the basics of American Law. MSL students will be learning alongside International LL.M students during the longer two-week orientation. These Orientation and Overview Programs are offered every August before the start of the Fall Semester.
