Vanessa coaches LL.M. students on career opportunities and advises the LL.M.s on the requirements for admission to practice in the United States. Before joining the Office of Career and Professional Development, she practiced civil litigation at several mid-sized Bay Area law firms, most recently with Gordon Rees LLP, focusing on appellate law, employment law, insurance law and intellectual property law. Vanessa received her B.S. in Psychology from Tulane University and her JD from UC Hastings. At UC Hastings, she was a member of the Constitutional Law Quarterly and a Research Assistant to Professor Leo Martinez. During law school, Vanessa externed for Judge Martin Jenkins, then with the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and spent a semester abroad at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. In addition, Vanessa has been teaching Legal Writing & Research and Moot Court to JD students at UC Hastings since 2011. A native of New Orleans, she left the hot, humid summers of the South for the cold, foggy summers of San Francisco. She lives in Noe Valley with her husband and daughter. Vanessa is a huge football fan, follows the New Orleans Saints religiously, and plays Fantasy Football. In her free time, she enjoys travel, cooking and running.
