Competition Travel Information

Hastings will pay for authorized airline tickets, hotel rooms, car rental and/or bus to and from airports/hotel/home (whichever mode of transportation is the least expensive). In addition, each student will receive a meal stipend when the competition is located more than 50 miles from San Francisco.  Please note, Hastings will not reimburse students for car rental insurance fees.

As soon as the date and the location of your competition are set, travel arrangements will be made by the Moot Court staff. We operate on a small budget, so we must obtain the most favorable rates in airfares and hotels. Once your airline tickets have been reserved, they cannot be changed without a significant price increase. Hastings will not pay for this increase.

Hastings will reimburse for meal expenses up to $55 per day (for a full 24 hour period). (For travel beginning before 7 a.m. or ending after 7 p.m. and lasting more than 12 but less than 24 hours, the reimbursement limit is $42). However, you must turn in your itemized receipts to receive reimbursement. No receipts means no reimbursement.

Receipts and a Travel Form must be turned in to Mary Duann-Kelly WITHIN 5 DAYS of incurring the costs in order to receive reimbursement from Hastings.  No reimbursements will be made until receipts from ALL team members are received.

Be sure to bring CASH ($$$), a credit card, and your driver's license when you travel. You are responsible for all incidental and necessary expenses at the competition, but you will be reimbursed later for those expenses (provided you have receipts).  Please note - Hastings will not reimburse charges for alcoholic beverages.
