Description of work: Students provide tax filing assistance to local residents one evening a week during tax season. The ABA Law Student Division’s VITA program is an independent operation from the IRS. However, the IRS will be providing training materials, forms, and technical assistance prior to and during the tax season. No experience is necessary.

Time Commitment: Must receive training to pass certification test. Clinic is held once a week during tax season, frequency of individual participation varies each season.

Debtor’s Rights Clinic
Description of work: Teach consumers how to fight against unlawful debt collectors and harassment, help people access safe and affordable housing, protect seniors and disabled people from consumer scams.

Time Commitment: Training on Friday, 2/10 from 11am-1pm at UC Hastings – 100 McAllister, Room 640. The Clinic runs on Mondays in San Mateo, Contra Costa on 1st & 3rd Fridays, Napa on 2nd Fridays, Alameda on 4th Fridays. Volunteers are expected to participate monthly, or about three clinics a semester.

California Lawyers for the Arts: The mission of California Lawyers for the Arts is to establish a bridge between the arts and the legal communities so that: artists and art groups may gain greater competence in handling legal and business aspects of their creative activities; the legal profession may become more aware of and involved in issues affecting artists and the arts community and, the law may become more responsive to the needs and interests of the arts community.
