{ career develoPment } AlexAndrA GrAyner ’12 “Two of my greatest experiences at UC Hastings were taking part in the Refu- gee and Human Rights Clinic and doing a judicial externship at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. These opportunities allowed me to apply what I was learning and gain experience on a practical level. “In the Refugee and Human Rights Clinic, I traveled with the clinic’s direc- tor, Karen Musalo, and another student to El Salvador, where we interviewed legal experts and developed documen- tation on domestic violence to use in asylum cases in the United States. The clinic provided a good basis for the human rights work I hope to continue throughout my career. “The judicial externship gave me a broad foundational background in legal research and writing and prepared me for the clerkship I will be doing after I graduate. It was a valuable stepping stone and put me in line for a great career path.” Undergraduate Degree: B.S., Economics UC Berkeley > BUIlDINg foR THE fUTURE As a UC Hastings student, you will join a community rich in professional and personal resources and tap into a worldwide alumni mentor network, which features attorneys who have followed both traditional and nontraditional JD career paths.
