Pharmacy Law for California Pharmacists
Marsha Cohen and Sami Seghani
$72.99 + $6.00 s/h

NEW SEVENTH EDITION Pharmacy Law for California Pharmacists, the only comprehensive guide to the law of pharmacy in California, is now in a new seventh edition, published in January 2012. The guide is written by Marsha N. Cohen, J.D., Professor of Law at Hastings College of the Law, who specializes in food and drug and administrative agency law and was a two-term member of the California State Board of Pharmacy (and its first non-pharmacist president), and Sami Sedghani, Pharm.D., J.D., a patent litigation associate with the national law firm of Alston & Bird L.L.P. who, prior to law practice, was a hospital pharmacist at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, where he was responsible for clinical medication management, including review and monitoring of medication regimens of patients with complex disease states. It benefits from the vast knowledge of the late William L. Marcus, co-author of the first six editions, who was counsel to the California State Board of Pharmacy for 19 years as a deputy attorney general with the California Department of Justice.
PRACTICE GUIDE Pharmacy Law for California Pharmacists provides an overview of state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy in California, focusing on the statutes, regulations, and, where relevant, judicial decisions affecting pharmacy practice. Pharmacy is a highly-regulated profession, and the regulations are constantly shifting to accommodate additional practice settings, increased scope of practice for pharmacists and other health care personnel, and dramatic changes in technology. Every pharmacist must maintain awareness of changes in the regulatory environment to ensure safe and legal practice. This book helps practitioners review the law and update their knowledge on all the changes of the past few years. Updates are posted annually.
EXAM PREPARATION GUIDE The book is a useful study guide for the California Pharmacist Jurisprudence Examination (CPJE). The 2012 edition includes a Study Guide for the CPJE (California Pharmacist Jurisprudence Examination), focusing on the pages in the text and on the clinical materials on the Pharmacy Board's website that deal with each element in the Board's examination content guide. It makes the law more comprehensible than it appears from reading the statutes and regulations themselves, while not oversimplifying what are often complex regulatory schemes. Questions and examples are provided to help the understanding process. Prep courses for the CPJE are offered for hundreds of dollars. Reading the relevant chapters of this text (guided by the Study Guide) is a much less expensive way to prepare for the exam.
STANDARD TEXTBOOK This book is the required text for the mandatory Law and Ethics courses at the UCSF and UCSD Schools of Pharmacy.
