Career Days

Meet the Employers Reception

Meet the Employers is held in early April in the LBM Lounge. This annual event allows students to meet and talk with attorneys and recruiters from many of the employers who will participate in our Fall On-Campus Interview (OCI) program.  Typically, about 60 employers participate including law firms, public interest organizations, government agencies, and in-house counsel. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about employers before beginning to research and bid on Fall OCI employers during the summer. Fall On-Campus Interviews will take place August 8th - 16th.

Intellectual Property Career Fair

The IP Career Fair is held each year in late January.  Kate Patterson, a powerful local IP recruiter, moderates a career panel discussion with three attorneys representing IP litigation, IP transactional work, and patent prosecution.  Following the career panel, a reception and table talk with many local IP employers is held in the Louis B. Mayer Lounge.  Students will receive emails with detailed information about the event, the panelists, and the attending employers.

Public Interest / Public Sector Day

Public Interest/Public Sector Day is a terrific way for students to meet with a large number of public interest and government organizations and agencies in one place and at one time. It is an annual event sponsored each February by nine Northern California law schools and OneJustice. The general public is also invited to PI/PS Day, although only students of sponsoring schools may participate in formal interviews. Some organizations conduct formal interviews, but most contacts are made on a more informal basis, as explained below. PI/PS Day has two components:

  • Formal Interviews: Organizations conduct formal, pre-screened interviews for paid, work-study or volunteer positions. Information about participating organizations becomes available online generally in December of each year. There is a link to this information on the OneJustice website. Applications are submitted online.
  • Meet the Advocates: Attorneys from various organizations and agencies are seated at individual tables, and students circulate and speak with them informally. Students do not need to make any advance arrangements with individual organizations for these sessions. Plan to take full advantage of this excellent opportunity to learn about the work done by a large number of different organizations and to explore various possible opportunities with these groups. Many students obtain part-time and summer positions from Meet the Advocates.

The 28th Annual Northern California Public Interest/Public Sector Legal Careers Day will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
