Professional Programs

Faculty, local alumni, professionals and attorneys participate in sophisticated mediation and negotiation training in CNDR-sponsored workshops and conferences. CNDR has presented numerous MCLE programs and offers specialized dispute resolution training to public agencies.


Recent Programs

July 2011: Mediation Certificate Program. This 40 hour mediation training, open to incoming Hastings LL.M. students and U.S. and international attorneys, notaries and others, introduced participants to the theory and practice of mediation.
June 2011: Envisioning, Designing and Implementing Court ADR: A Practical and Theoretical Program.  Judges, court administrators and attorneys from foreign countries learned how to design and implement ADR systems within their own country's judicial system.  June 20-25.
May 2011: Negotiating for Advantage: Techniques for Successful Bargaining.  This one day CLE program offers both beginning and experienced negotiators targeted bargaining skills.  6.5 CLE credits, including 2.5 for Ethics. 
April 2011:  ABA Section of Dispute Resolution's 13th Annual Spring Conference in Denver, CO.  Faculty members Carol Izumi, Clark Freshman, Fred Butler and Howard Herman to present.
April 2011:  Carol Izumi and Claudia Veira present "Implicit Bias and Mediator Neutrality" to The Mediation Society.
February 2011:  Northern California Alternative Dispute Resolution Faculty Conference
October 2010:  CNDR presents "Lie to Me?!! How Emotions Matter in Negotiation", a multi-disciplinary symposium.
October 2010:  Professional Responsibility MCLE Training to Southern California Edison Company.
June 2010:  Professional Responsibility Trainings to Sempra Energy Company.
April 2010:  ABA Section of Dispute Resolution's 12th Annual Spring Conference in San Francisco.  Faculty members Clark Freshman, Grande Lum, Jessica Notini and Rochael Soper present. 
October 2009:  CNDR co-sponsors the California Dispute Resolution Council's 16th Annual Dispute Resolution Policy Conference
June 2009:  Clark Freshman presents "Jury Selection, Lie Detection and Beyond: The Science of Cross-Cultural Emotional Awareness" to the San Francisco Public Defender's Office and the Marin County Public Defender's Office
May 2009:  Professor Grande Lum presnets "Negotiating and Resolving Problems Collaboratively" at the League of California Cities' Mayors & Council Members Executive Forum in San Diego
April 2009:  Clark Freshman presents "Emotional Truthfullness and Lie Detection in Negotiation: Science, Culture and Skills" at the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution's 11th Annual Spring Conference in New York City
February 2009:  Northern California ADR Faculty Teaching Conference
January 2009:  Facilitation Training for Administrative Law Judges at the California Public Utilities Commission
April 2008:  Mediation Training for Administrative Law Judges at the California Public Utilities Commission
February 2008:  With the Center for State and Local Governement, CNDR presents the symposium "Toward Collaborative Governance"
