Jessica Gabel

Adjunct Professor Jessica Gabel is a litigation associate in the San Francisco Office of Covington and Burling LLP. Ms. Gabel received her B.S. in criminal justice, with a specialization in forensic science, summa cum laude, from the University of Central Florida. She received her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law, magna cum laude, where she was elected to the Order of the Coif.

While at the University of Miami, Professor Gabel founded and served as the executive director of the school's Wrongful Convictions Project, which assisted inmates with post-conviction claims of actual innocence. For her work, the University of Miami awarded Professor Gabel its first annual "Innovative Service in the Public Interest" Award in 2004. Ms. Gabel was also a member of the University of Miami Law Review.

Professor Gabel clerked for Judge Peter T. Fay of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit during the 2004-2005 term. During that time, she was an adjunct professor at the University of Miami, teaching legal research and writing. Professor Gabel also coached University of Miami's national bankruptcy moot court team. Professor Gabel works on a variety of cases, with a particular focus on white collar, civil rights, and death penalty litigation. She has represented clients in Florida, California, and Mississippi.

A Kansas native, Professor Gabel is relatively new to the Bay Area. While she is glad to have left tornadoes and hurricanes behind, she is still adapting to "duck and cover" drills for earthquakes. In her spare time she travels, takes dance classes, and hikes.
