Maria L. Joseph
Adjunct Professor Maria L. Joseph grew up moving around the country and living overseas for junior high and high school. She graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan in 1978, majoring in Chinese studies. Before and after graduation, she worked for IBM in China, witnessing much of the two-year negotiations that led to the first U.S. computer sale to China. She graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1982 and was associated with Cooper, White & Cooper and later, Epstein, Becker, Borsody and Green, practicing in the areas of securities fraud, First Amendment law and business disputes. In 2002, she began mediating full-time in family law and small business disputes. She has done mediation trainings for volunteer mediators, students and employers.
Professor Joseph is a former member of the boards of Mediation Services and East Bay Community Mediation, and is currently a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and the Association for Dispute Resolution - Northern California.
