Marja-Liisa (Mari) Overbeck

Adjunct Professor Mari Overbeck received her B.A. in International Politics & Economics from Middlebury College, and received her J.D. from Hastings in 2008.  Before law school, Professor Overbeck worked as a criminal investigator for the Manhattan Legal Aid Society.  Following law school, Professor Overbeck clerked for the Honorable Bernard Zimmerman at the Northern District of California, and then joined the Employment Litigation Group at Winston & Strawn LLP, where she currently practices employment litigation.  Professor Overbeck also has experience litigating intellectual property and bankruptcy matters.

As a student at Hastings, Professor Overbeck was a member of the Jessup International Moot Court Competition team as well as the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review.  During both of her years on Jessup, Professor Overbeck went undefeated at the regional rounds, winning oral advocacy and memorial awards, and also broke historical records for Hastings at the international competitions in Washington DC, where she helped the Hastings Jessup team place 5th and 8th out of over 500 international teams.

Professor Overbeck currently serves as an alumni coach for Hastings’ Jessup International Moot Court Competition team, and teaches Moot Court at Hastings as well.
