E. Clement Shute, Jr.


Expertise:  Environmental Law; Land Use Law;  California Environmental Quality Act;  Regulatory Inverse Condemnation; General Plans; Aviation Law

Adjunct Professor E. Clement Shute, Jr. is a graduate of Boalt Hall, University of California.  He commenced his practice with the California Department of Justice representing the Coastal Commission, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission and other state resource agencies.  In 1980, he founded the law firm of Shute Mihaly & Weinberger, LLP where he continued his environmental and land use practice with particular emphasis on Lake Tahoe issues, General Plans, EIRs and airport expansions.  He has appeared before the United States Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and numerous lower courts.  Currently he serves as a member of the California Advisory Board of the Trust for Public Land as well as serving on the board of the Dorothy Erskine Open Space Council.  He is an adjunct professor at Boalt Hall and Hastings College of the Law.
