Ronald Tyler
Ron Tyler is a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming. He received his B.S. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981. His honors at M.I.T. included the Weisner Award for Achievement in the Performing Arts. After a brief career in high technology, he turned away from industry to focus on public interest advocacy. He began law school as a Tony Patiño Fellow at Hastings. He earned his J.D. from Boalt Hall in 1989, where he served as Notes and Comments Editor on the Ecology Law Quarterly. After law school, he clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Hall Patel. In 1990, he joined the office of the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of California, where he has remained ever since. He appears in trial and appellate courts covering the full gamut of federal criminal cases.
Aside from his law practice, Mr. Tyler teaches Trial Advocacy at Hastings and is also on the faculty of the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia. He teaches regularly at national and local seminars for criminal defense attorneys, investigators and paralegals. He is also active in the American Civil Liberties Union, serving on its National Board of Directors, as well as on the board of the Northern California affiliate. Outside of law, he enjoys time spent with his family, theater and fitness pursuits.
