Professor Peter Kamminga is a permanent associated scholar and guest lecturer at Hastings College of the Law and a continuing research scholar at Stanford University (Gould Center). He divides his time between the US and Europe, where he is senior researcher and lecturer at Tilburg University (Netherlands) and associated with the law school of Brussels University (Belgium).
Peter Kamminga holds an LLB, LLM in Contract and Company Law, and a PhD in law. After, completing part of his study in Germany (Gottingen University), he completed a Masters degree program in Conflict Management in the Netherlands. He finished a PhD (nominated Cum Laude) on legal, economic and social psychological aspects of contracting in complex construction projects at Tilburg University (Netherlands). The PhD has been nominated best publication of the Tilburg Law School.
Prior to his academic career Professor Peter Kamminga practiced law as in-house counsel and as legal advisor at one of the Netherlands’ biggest law firms (De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek) advising on arbitration cases and complex settlement cases. After joining the TISCO Tilburg Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of Civil Law and Conflict Resolution System (Netherlands), he worked on various consultancy projects for clients as the Dutch Ministry of Justice, victims’ rights organizations, the insurance industry, and the construction industry. Professor Peter Kamminga is also a registered mediator and coordinator of TISCO.
In his research Professor Peter Kamminga takes an interdisciplinary approach to contracting including economic and social psychological perspectives next to a legal analysis. He has published several articles and co-authored books on various themes such as contracts and cooperation, the role of standards in personal injury claim handling, access to justice, the role of the legal system in optimizing collaboration between private and public parties, and ADR. He has developed and taught several courses on complex contracts, construction law negotiation, and mediation.
Dutch by nationality and French by marriage, Professor Peter Kamminga has lived in the West and East Side of the US, Germany and France. In his free time he enjoys running, and travel with his wife.
