John Malone, Professor of Law

John Malone is a native of Prescott, Arizona.  He graduated from San Fernando High School in Southern California, where he served as student body president.  Professor Malone served two years in the Navy in the field of communications.  Admitted to the California Bar in 1953, Professor Malone joined the staff of the State Bar of California and spent most of his professional career there, where he held several positions, including those of secretary and executive director, 1970-78.  In addition to administrative responsibilities, he devoted considerable time to the disciplinary processes of the State Bar.  He joined the faculty at Hastings in 1979 and has taught courses in professional responsibility and the legal profession.  Professor Malone is a member of the State Bar of California and past chair of its Committee on the History of Law.

His hobbies include hiking and "not too competitive" bridge.  He is also an active participant in a Marin chapter of Great Books, "reading books I should have read 40 years ago."  He has served as a lecturer in continuing legal education programs at Hastings and other law schools and organizations.

Courses Taught: Professional Responsibility

My favorite part about teaching you is... preparing you to recognize and thus successfully deal with practical problems in the world of law practice.

Hastings offers you the following unique opportunities... to study under and exchange concerns with very fine and interested professors of law.
