James McCall, Professor of Law


Prior to joining the Hastings faculty in 1971, Professor McCall spent seven years as a business litigator with an Oakland law firm and two years as a deputy attorney general of the State of California, bringing antitrust and consumer fraud prosecutions. In his practice, Professor McCall has argued on several occasions before both the California and United States Supreme Courts.

He is the author of two books, The Sun and Substance of Antitrust and Cases, Notes and Materials on Consumer Protection, as well as numerous articles in legal journals on various aspects of consumer protection, professional responsibility, evidence, and antitrust law. He has frequently been called as an expert witness in lawsuits and before the Federal Trade Commission. Professor McCall has also served on various professional boards and advisory committees to state agencies, most recently as a member of the Retail Credit Advisory Committee of the California State Legislature. He has taught and lectured on American antitrust law in Japan, Great Britain and the Netherlands and is currently teaching antitrust, comparative antitrust, and evidence.
