Roger C. Park, James Edgar Hervey Chair in Litigation

Roger C. Park was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia.  Both his parents were journalists.   Professor Park attended Harvard University and, after a tour in Vietnam, Harvard Law School, where he was Case Editor of the Harvard Law Review.  After graduating, he clerked for Chief Judge Bailey Aldrich of the First Circuit.  He then did criminal defense trial and appellate work for three years at Zalkind & Silverglate, in Boston.  Professor Park also taught part-time at Wellesley College.  In 1973 he joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota Law School and taught there for twenty years, becoming its Fredrikson & Byron Professor of Law in 1990.  He joined the Hastings faculty in 1995 after teaching as a visiting professor in 1994.  Professor Park has held the James Edgar Hervey Chair in Litigation since 1998.  He has also taught as a visiting professor at Stanford Law School, University of Michigan, Boston University, and Boston College.

Professor Park is an author/co-author of seven books, including the Waltz, Park & Friedman evidence casebook.  He has written numerous law review articles on evidence law, evidence scholarship, and the empirical study of evidence issues.  He is the "content provider" for 20 computer-aided lessons on law that are distributed by the Center for Computer-Aided Legal Instruction.  He is now working on the "Witness" volume of The New Wigmore.  In addition to Evidence and Trial Objections, he has taught or co-taught Civil Procedure, Legislation, Social Science in Law, Criminal Law, Drug Crimes, and Legal Professions.

He married Suzanne Nicole Howard in 1984.  The couple have three adult children.  Suzanne, a New Yorker with dual French-American citizenship, is the volunteer Art Curator at UC Hastings and a docent at the De Young and Legion of Honor museums.  Roger's non-law interests center on bicycling, reading, and poker.
