Nancy Stuart, Clinical Professor of Law and Director, Externships and Pro Bono Programs

After ten years of teaching in the California public schools, Nancy Stuart attended Hastings. Following law school, Professor Stuart practiced in a variety of public interest settings from litigating Voting Rights cases with the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area to representing individuals living with HIV in a wide array of civil legal issues with the Hawkins Center. Professor Stuart returned to Hastings in July 2000 as a member of the faculty of the Civil Justice Clinic where she taught the Individual Representation Clinic and Roles and Ethics.  In 2003, Professor Stuart received the "Celebrating the Struggle" award from the Hastings Public Interest Law Foundation.  In January 2006, she left Hastings to return to practice and relocated to South Lake Tahoe. There, when not hiking, biking or skiing, she developed a legal services program at the local women's center and a heightened appreciation of the tremendous need for legal services in rural areas.  Professor Stuart returned to Hastings as the Director of Externships and Pro Bono Programs in July 2007.

As a Hastings graduate, Nancy Stuart is honored to mentor current students as they explore the vast legal landscape, develop their professional identities, and discover their niche in the law.
