Adjunct Professor Claire Johnson Raba is a staff attorney in the consumer law unit at Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal). Professor Raba began her legal career by expanding BayLegal's services to include consumer rights advocacy as an Equal Justice Works fellow with a project on the consumer issues facing domestic violence survivors. The success of the fellowship project demonstrated an unmet need in the community for consumer protection advocacy and education, leading to the launch of a full-service consumer law specialty practice in 2012. Professor Raba represents low-income clients in matters including fair debt collection, fair credit reporting, unfair and deceptive acts and practices, consumer debt defense, student loans, and bankruptcy.
Professor Raba is a 2010 graduate of UC Hastings College of the Law, Public Interest Concentration, and received her B.A., cum laude, in 2007 from California State University East Bay.
