Adjunct Professor John McGaraghan is a senior associate in the technology transactions practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he has practiced since being a summer associate in 2007. He focuses on counseling companies at all stages of growth in the development, distribution, licensing, disposition, and acquisition of technology and intellectual property rights. His practice spans a wide range of industries, including software, hardware, semiconductor, fintech, entertainment/media industries, big data, telecom, and more.
Drawing on background as an entertainer and a technology developer, Professor McGaraghan has particular expertise in media and content technologies and open source software licensing. In addition to drafting and negotiating mission critical commercial transaction agreements, John has significant experience advising companies on intellectual property matters in connection with investments, financings, asset purchases and sales, corporate structuring (spin-outs), and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Professor McGaraghan was a working musician and recording artist, and a software developer.
Professor McGaraghan is a proud graduate of UC Hastings College of the Law, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego.
