1098-T Notice

You can print your 1098-T off the web!
You, or the person who may claim you as a dependent, may be able to take either the tuition and fees deduction or claim an education tax credit, under the provisions of the Taxpayer Relief Act (TRA).
Hastings cannot determine if you qualify for a tax credit. You should obtain IRS Publication 970 and IRS Form 8863 or contact a tax professional about personal income tax situations. The IRS web site for forms and publications is located at www.irs.gov/formspubs/index.html.
Hastings has contracted with Vangent, formerly National Computer Systems (NCS), to generate and mail the 1098-T form to Hastings students. We have also contracted for toll-free customer service Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, for Vangent representatives to answer your questions about TRA credits and eligibility. The toll free number is 1-800-223-0043. If you need to report an address correction for purposes of receiving your 1098-T form, you may do so through this toll-free number.
Your 1098-T forms will be mailed out at the end of January. You can also print your form from the web by following these instructions:
- Go to www.tra.vangent.com
- Click on Student Services
- Enter the school code: 00394700
- Enter your Name ID (first two characters of your last name)
- Enter your pin (last 4 digits of your social security number)
- Change your pin on your first visit. If you do not change your pin your viewing options are restricted.
Note the following about your 1098-T form issued by Hastings:
- Hastings can report amounts only in Box 2, which represents the total amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses during 2009 less any related reductions in charges.
- Box 4 discloses any adjustments to prior year qualified tuition and related expenses reported on a prior year Form 1098-T.
- Box 6 discloses adjustments to scholarships or grants reported on a prior Form 1098-T.
Hastings reports amounts in Box 2 because its student information and financial system only provides this option. However, you can claim the education tax credit only on the basis of qualified expenses you actually paid in 2009. To assist you in determining this information, we will make available to you a statement of the details of your tuition and fee account for your Fall 2009 through Spring 2010 billed tuition and fees. You may request this statement at the Office of Fiscal Services, 198 McAllister Street, Room 111.
