Strategic Planning at Hastings
A Letter From Dean Wu
Welcome to the strategic planning process. Every aspect of its name is crucial. We must be strategic to be successful. We live in an era of decreases in public funding, coupled to increases in regulation of higher education, competition among institutions, and expectations about the value of the Juris Doctor degree. It is imperative that we use our resources well. Ongoing planning ensures that we do so. And process is crucial to generating a shared set of goals, communicating them clearly, and working together effectively to realize them.
Everyone at UC Hastings has a role to play. Our academic missions are our priority; without students to teach and knowledge to be developed and disseminated, we would serve no purpose. Yet the training of lawyers, and, more than lawyers, problem-solvers and leaders who enter many fields, and the production of scholarships with potential to change our world, can occur only with the support of all who are integral to the enterprise.
As we proceed, we will communicate as candidly and thoroughly as possible. Please feel free to offer your thoughts. I look forward to our work
