Please join the Hastings Law Journal on February 13, 2009 in the Alumni Reception Center at UC Hastings as we discuss the scope of the Second Amendment’s individual right to bear arms after the Supreme Court opinion in District of Columbia v. Heller.

Hastings Professors Calvin Massey, Rory Little, and Beth Hillman along with reputed scholars from around the country will discuss the impact of the Heller opinion on gun regulations and interpreting the rights of the Second Amendment. Topics will likely include: whether Heller implicitly constitutionalizes self-defense as an affirmative defense, the application of Heller by lower courts and the doctrinal decision rules or tests used to implement the opinion, incorporation, the Court’s five exceptions for gun control legislation, and the scope of the Second Amendment right to possess ordinary weapons for self-defense.

Featured presenters include: Professors Alan E. Brownstein, Michael Kent Curtis, Brannon P. Denning, Beth Hillman, Don B. Kates Jr., Nicholas Johnson, Carlton F.W. Larson, Craig Lerner, Sanford V. Levinson, Rory Little, and Calvin Massey.  A listing of panelists’ biographies can be accessed by link here: Speakers' Biographies.
