This symposium will provide a forum for the open deliberation on the problems facing our nation, and a critical exploration of how to advocate for the positions and needs of a wide spectrum of communities. The purpose of the symposium is to ensure that our positions and needs are reflected in the agenda and decisions of the Obama administration. The symposium brings together academics, legal advocates, policy makers, activists, students, and members of the community for a dialogue on how to bring about pronounced social change and progress.
The panel discussions will center on the question of how the decisions made by the Obama administration have impacted our communities on the issues of grassroots mobilization, health care reform, and workers' rights. The panelists will also share their insight and analysis on the impact of these decisions on the present-day efforts of advocating in these issues and for governmental accountability. By the end of our discussions, participants will understand the legal tools that are available in supporting progress within our communities.
