How to Browse for a Database


Click on the “Search” tab.  Click on the “Find a Source” tab underneath “Search.”  

 


 Find a source

You can look for a source in two ways.

Option 1:  Type in the words or phrases that indicate what source you are searching for.  

Note: This is a "Terms and Connectors" search, so formulate your search accordingly.  For more information go to How To Run Successful Searches.  

Example: You are looking for a California encyclopedia of law, but you can’t remember what they are called.  Type “California and encyclopedia” (without quotes) into the search field. 

Click “Find.”


Search by words

The search results include California Jurisprudence 3d, which serves as California's legal encyclopedia.  Perfect!  Click on the text of California Jurisprudence 3d.

Option 2: Browse Alphabetically.

If you think you know the name of the source, choose the hyperlinked letter that the source starts with and then scroll through the resulting list.

Once you find the source that you want, click on thehyperlinked text of the title.  The “i” button: if you think a title might be the book that you are looking for, but you aren’t sure, click the “i” button to the right of the title.

A window will pop up explaining the book for you. 


Book description

Now you are ready to run a search.  

On the search page, you can simply choose Natural Language, Terms and Connectors, or Easy Search, then type in your search terms and click “Search."  For more information about formulating successful searches, click here.
