Hastings Supreme Court Review & Preview
Start: 10/1/2008 from 3:30 PM to
5:15 PM
Location: 200 McAllister, Alumni Reception Center
Topics for discussion will include:
- the “new” right to bear arms (Heller)
- the death penalty (lethal injection (Baez)
- no death penalty for child rape (Kennedy v. Louisiana)
- international treaty obligations (Medellin)
- Guantanamo detainees Habeas decision (Boumedienne)
- a number of other interesting cases from last Term.
Panelists this year are Academic Research Dean Evan Lee, Professors David Faigman, William Dodge, and Rory Little.
In addition, important cases already set for decision in the coming term will be surveyed, including a number of interesting Fourth Amendment cases and some very significant federal preemption cases.
Refreshments and the event are co-sponsored by the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly and the Academic Dean’s Office.
Last year’s panel was standing room only, so it may pay to get there a bit early.
