Civil and Uncivil Rights in California

Professor Joseph R. Grodin to speak along with Charles J. McClain Jr., University of California at Berkeley; and Shirley Ann Moore, Sacramento State University. Chief Justice Ronald M. George will provide the introduction for Civil and Uncivil Rights in California: The Early Legal History seminar.
Moderator John F. Burns, former state archivist and a member of the Board of Directors of the California Supreme Court Historical Society, will lead the discussion concerning the following topics: the legacy of early California civil rights cases that provided a foundation for change in the 20th and 21st centuries; how various racial groups were treated by the legal system a century ago; and the people who tried to advance California's civil rights jurisprudence.
