Start: 2/22/2010 from 12:00 PM to
1:30 PM
Location: 198 McAllister Street, Moot Court Room (4th Floor)
Join us for a discussion of what the next decade might hold for the death penalty. Panelists will discuss the leading issues --including, among other things, the duration of appellate and collateral review, the challenges of individualized sentencing (e.g., race, youth, mental retardation), error rates, the quality of capital representation and the financial cost of the death penalty -- and where and how those issues might be decided.
Panelists:
Dane R. Gillette, Chief Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Division, Office of the California Attorney General
Natasha Minsker, Death Penalty Policy Director, ACLU of Northern California
Jon B. Streeter, Partner, Keker & Van Nest; Vice Chairman of the California State Senate Commission on the Fair Administration of Criminal Justice
