Join us for a discussion on current issues in entertainment law with Jay Spillane '86, who will moderate the talk.
Mr. Spillane is a partner with Spillane Weingarten, a firm of business trial lawyers. The firm is especially well known for matters in the fields of entertainment, media and intellectual property, and is also experienced in corporate, real estate, finance and trust litigation. Mr. Spillane graduated Order of the Coif from Hastings College of the Law in 1986. He handles litigation matters for clients in the Internet, motion picture, television, music, sports, advertising, publishing, real estate, technology and software industries.
Speakers
Lincoln Bandlow, of Lathrop & Gage, specializes in litigating media, first amendment, intellectual property and other entertainment-related matters. Mr. Bandlow represents clients in the motion picture, television, publishing, broadcasting and advertising fields. In addition, Mr. Bandlow has represented several of the principal underwriters for the entertainment industry. Mr. Bandlow graduated magna cum laude from Boston University in 1993.
David Given, partner and co-founder of Phillips Erlewine & Given, San Francisco, specializes in entertainment, technology and intellectual property law. His practice spans both litigation and transactional related matters. His clients include individuals and business entities engaged in a range of activities, including music and merchandising, video gaming, internet and other broadcast media, entertainment technology and software development.
For a two-year term, David served as chairman of the American Bar Association's Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries. He has been a panelist and featured speaker at numerous entertainment, technology and video game industry events. He recently co-chaired the LSI-sponsored Entertainment Technology Law Summit in Seattle with Steve Tapia (Microsoft's lead in-house copyright attorney). In 2007, he was chosen to present the American Bar Association's annual Presidential Showcase Program, entitled "Privacy, Copyright and Parental Control in the Age of YouTube, MySpace and Beyond." David graduated from Cornell University with a degree in French and Filmmaking and obtained his law degree from the University of Virginia. He is a board member of the Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco.
