Hastings Clinical Professor of Law Grande Lum is the assistant producer of "The Oak Park Story" - a documentary of a contemporary tenant community's struggle to improve their living conditions in a slumlord-managed apartment complex in East Oakland. It's a story of undocumented immigrants from Mexico, refugees from Cambodia, and faith-based activists who lived at Oak Park for more than a decade and all came together to fight back against the negligent landlord and the crummy living conditions he foisted on them. The co-directors are Valerie Soe and Russell Jeung, two professors at San Francisco State University.
The premiere will be Sunday, March 14 at the Sundance Kabuki Theatre as part of the SF International Asian American Film Festival.
