UCSF/Hastings Consortium on Law, Science & Health Policy Launch Reception

Start:  4/15/2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Location:  200 McAllister, Alumni Reception Center

Professor David Faigman and Interim Chancellor and Dean Leo Martinez '78 cordially invite you to attend a gathering to celebrate the official launch of the UCSF / UC Hastings Consortium on Law, Science & Health Policy.

We are pleased to announce the launch of an exciting new initiative at Hastings - the UCSF/Hastings Consortium on Law, Science & Health Policy - that is being implemented by the University of California, San Francisco and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Our two world-class institutions have now formalized their longtime relationship into a Consortium that will create and foster myriad collaborative opportunities for our faculty, researchers, and students.

Today, lawyers, scientists, and health care professionals operate largely insulated from one another, both in their formal training and their daily practice. Yet, increasingly, the demands of modern law and science require a sophisticated understanding of the other's form and function. In short, lawyers and scientists can no longer continue to work in isolation. They must be well-versed in one another's vocabulary and their practices need to be integrated. The UCSF/Hastings Consortium is founded on this vision.

Please join us in celebrating this exciting new collaboration. Chancellor and Dean Leo Martinez, Consortium Director and Professor David Faigman, and UCSF Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Sally Marshall will offer brief comments describing the origins of this partnership, the scope of our collaboration, and the exciting prospects for the future. This is the first and only collaboration on the West Coast offering an integrated approach to law, science and health policy of this scope. Guests will have an opportunity to see works in progress and proposed initiatives.

If you plan to attend, please RSVP by April 5th to Jennifer Dunn '98, UCSF/UC Hastings Consortium Executive Director, by calling 415.581.8983 or emailing her at dunnj@uchastings.edu
