The State of Hope: Race, Poverty, and the Law in the Obama Administration
Start: 4/9/2010 from 3:00 PM to
7:00 PM
Location: 200 McAllister, Alumni Reception Center
The Hastings Race & Poverty Law Journal's symposium will provide a forum for both open deliberation of the problems facing the United States and a critical exploration of how to advocate for our positions and needs, so that they are reflected in the decisions made by the Obama administration.
The symposium brings together academics, legal advocates, policy makers, activists, students and members of the community for a dialogue on how to bring about social change and progress. The panel discussions will center on how decisions made have impacted our communities on the issues of grassroots mobilization, health care reform, and workers' rights. The panelists will also share analysis on the impact on the present-day advocacy and accountability efforts. At the end, participants will have an understanding of the legal tools available for those of us interested in supporting a progressive cause.
Thomas A. Saenz, President and General Counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense & Educational Fund, will speak at 6:30pm. Reception to follow.
The event is free and open to the public, but please register online. MCLE credit available.
