2010 Global Forum on Direct Democracy

UC Hastings will host the 2010 Global Forum on Direct Democracy. Organized by the Citizens in Charge Foundation and the Initiative and Referendum Institute Europe, with the assistance of the Center for State and Local Government Law, the event will bring scholars, politicians, activists and journalists from 37 countries together to discuss the intersection between constitutionalism and direct democracy. What are the best ways to use direct democracy for the making and remaking of constitutions? And what systems and structures of direct democracy belong in those constitutions? Featured speakers include California Secretary of State Debra Bowen, former Assembly Speaker and Chair of California Forward Robert Hertzberg, Chairwoman of the Korea Democracy Foundation Jung-Ok Lee, European Parliament Member Gerald Hafner and our own Joe Grodin, Ethan Leib, Darien Shanske, Michael Salerno and Joanna Weinberg.
