Prosecuting Gender Based International Crimes in National Courts

Join us for a panel discussion of efforts to prosecute gender based crimes. Speakers from the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies, Center for Justice and Accountability, and Women's Link Worldwide will talk about efforts to bring cases involving these crimes in national and transnational settings, especially in Latin America. The panel includes:

  • The impact of Universal Jurisdiction in the national struggle against impunity: Guatemala Genocide and the Argentine cases before the Spanish National Court, any room for gender based crimes? Almudena Bernabeu, Center for Justice and Accountability.
  • Past and present violence against women in Guatemala. From the armed conflict to the femicide in Guatemala. Karen Musalo, Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies.
  • Prosecution of gender based international crimes in national Courts: Guatemala and Argentina. Paloma Soria and Viviana Waisman (Hastings Alumni), Women's Link Worldwide.
