“A Good Way to a Good Place-Transforming the Culture of Healthcare from the Inside Out”

Start:  3/29/2011 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Location:  198 McAllister, Room 304

This presentation will focus on transforming the culture of healthcare from the inside out using practical approaches for shifting our attention from mandates and regulations to the relational dynamics that impact daily our ability to achieve our greater mission- to help others heal. Adopting a strategic approach to conflict is a necessary aspect of such a transformation. Healthcare professionals and legal professionals must work together to craft a better way for addressing conflict and disruption that negatively impact patient care and impair the health of clinical work environments. Attending to the relational dynamics among health professionals will enable us to move toward a preferred future in which we all work together, and not just side-by-side.

Presenter: Debra Gerardi, President and Chief Creative Officer EHCCO, LLC. Ms. Gerardi is a health care conflict engagement specialist providing mediation and facilitation services, conflict assessment, coaching, and training programs for healthcare organizations internationally. She is currently President and Chief Creative Officer for EHCCO (Emerging HealthCare Communities) a community of practice working to improve collaboration and conflict engagement among health professionals.

Debra has provided professional services to over 100 leading organizations including: the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, The Joint Commission, the World Health Organization World Alliance for Patient Safety, UCSF and UCLA medical centers, Stanford Hospital and Clinics, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the American Medical Association, the Medical Group Management Association, Genetech, Kaiser Permanente, the Department of Defense Patient Safety Program and the Oregon Patient Safety Commission.
